May 6, 2006 - GolfCabal rolls out RALPH - Round Accountability Links Promote Honesty. By Monday morning, each round score on the leaderboard will be a clickable link to a chart of the player's shot record for that round.
May 5, 2006 - Week 18 is hampered by drastic problems with Cox Internet. GolfCabal responds by employing two additional service providers for the sake of fault tolerance. Our goal is to provide 100% availability, 24-7. That's right, our plan is to eventually eliminate the Sunday night 12 hour interim so that there are always events to enter no matter when you connect.
May 3, 2006 - Earl Woods, Vietnam veteran, model sports father, rest in peace. March 5, 1932 to May 3, 2006.
May 1, 2006 - 1:26p EDT PGA is open for play now, but you must download the latest release. More info in the Forums, ANNOUNCEMENTS.
APCD is also set for all four rounds. LONG & STRAIGHT!
May 1, 2006 - I spent too much time working on the web interface this weekend. It's important, but it's not...
FORE! All tours tee off Monday at 7:15a EDT *except* PGA, which will tee off as soon as the "weather" clears. This statement attempts to hide a technical problem behind a piece of mystique. Truth is, we wanted to use Quail Ridge, because that is where the PGA is playing this week. HOWEVER! that course became UNavailable through Links Corner on 4-29-2006. As soon as I have a copy of the course in my hand, we will launch the PGA.
Similarly, through an upload glitch, only round ONE of APCD is available, but all three levels of round one can now be played. Rounds 2 - 4 will become available by Tuesday morning.
This is a good time to try out the Three-Club Tournament!
April 24, 2006 - 3-Club Tour tees off its inaugural event today at Chateau Whistler.
New rectangular web interface appears on front page.
April 22, 2006 - Support for Forum schemes now includes: GolfCabalStd, Jet, and Jasidogdotcom. "Jet" has a very nice style for Nested Quoting that we hope to incorporate into all styles.
Our Hall of Fame entries are now LIFO...newest entries are placed at the TOP of each category. Speaking of "strange birds", did you know that "bogie", too, is a bird? Yep, it's an Old English name for a blackbird!
April 19, 2006 - Beta version of a launcher version that will accommodate Yank AND Euro players released.
April 18, 2006 - Tiger's Hall of Fame appears today. Your Aces, your Albatrosses, you Wacky Shots will be posted here. Also, Best Rounds will appear for each course. These initiatives begin today, under the new, secure launcher, so that we can know these famous scores, low as they may be, are honest and fair. Likewise, the Famous Shots must be played in a round that is clear of resets and restarts, to keep somebody from like playing hole 1 at Bountful over and over til they make a double eagle, right? "Fair's Fair!" - Bille Jean.
April 18, 2006 - Today I reached out to as many former "lost" Golfcom users as I could find addresses for, and invited them to try out GolfCabal for FREE!
When you see these guys connecting, please join me in welcoming them. Also, if you know of a veteran player who has drifted away, CC: to me when you reach out to him so I can add a FREE!
subscription in his name, and he will be able to get onto the Links without delay. In return for your effort, I will add a month to the duration of your in-place subscription! You want bigger fields for our events as much as I do, right?
April 17, 2006 - Pay Your Taxes, You're a Good American!
Quote of the Day: "Income Tax has made more liars out of Americans than golf." -- Will Rogers

The Timeout Error some users experienced has been repaired. Users who are already playing successfully can wait until tomorrow to download and install the latest launcher. Barring any unforeseen problems, this launcher will run for a few weeks unchanged before any additional features are turned on, to make sure our current core is stable and effective for everyone. A special debt of gratitude is due to Tom Godwin and Kyle Phillips who went through about a dozen rounds of diagnostics, helping me track down a problem whose solution will benefit all of us.
April 13, 2006 - 4:27a EDT
The MASTERS is (finally) over! Final results for week 14 have been posted.
April 11, 2006 - 20:15 EDT
RLaunch73 released. This version includes built-in diagnostics to assist in finding configuration problems.
April 11, 2006 - 00:16 EDT
Don Gooch and Bruce Wallace have successfully submitted rounds using the new launcher. Some users are reporting a Runtime Error 76: Path not found. If you are receiving this error, please read HowTo.doc regarding the editing of the RLAUNCH.CFG file. If you still have trouble, download RL721, a diagnostic version with instructions included, at Downloads
News: April 10, 2006 - 16:57 EDT
RL72.ZIP is ready to download, but PLEASE! Those who have never had any problems installed a launcher or Links, proceed with caution, and email me with concerns or questions, or better yet, post here.
If you have an unusual system configuration, or an OS other than XP, or if you have had a problem installing a launcher, please wait a day or so until the pioneers ("fools rush in where angels fear to tread") have tested.
DO not be overly worried about my caution. This is a program whose operation has been tested for months, it is very solid, it is very dependable. The only questions that exist at this point regard getting it configured to run in YOUR system.
LONG & STRAIGHT!
News: April 10, 2006 - 13:04 EDT
NOTICE: We are almost ready to ship. This first version will NOT be for everybody. If you are have had problems with launcher installations in the past, due to an unusual setup or anything, please wait until Tuesday or so to install. If you know how to set a restore point, find files, observe date-time stamps...set exceptions for your firewall...If you're the kind of guy who installs his own PCI cards in the computer, and if you are willing to help me get this show on the road, then your download will be ready within the hour! (I think ;)
News: April 10, 2006 - 06:28 EDT
On Sunday, April 9, TheGolfConnection web site became unavailable.
The net result is that I had to put this site on the road PDQ so we could
1) Complete the Masters.
2) Communicate with each other.
3) Begin the new week with a fresh slate of events.
I have made special arrangements with those players who were unable to complete their Masters rounds
on Sunday to complete them by 8pm EDT on Monday, April 10, 2006. You may view the current standings by
selecting Week 14 on the Leaderboard page.
Round Launcher 72 is required to play all events at this site.
RLaunch2 and RLaunch5 will no longer be used.
Please visit the Downloads
page to grab your new FREE launcher.
